What is your role at Andrews University or in the Community?
I’m finishing my MA in Youth Ministry degree and working in the Christian Ministry department.
How did you become involved in Encounter?Steven invited me to attend Sabbath School the third week I was here at Andrews. I liked the idea of a community of young adults studying the Bible together, hanging out together, and serving the surrounding community together. So I slowly got sucked in to just about every aspect of Encounter! And I love it! Encounter is my family away from home – although Berrien Springs is now my home, so they really ARE my family now!
How many years have you been attending Encounter?
Just over two years.
What is your role at Encounter?
I’m the Communications Team Leader, which means I’m also on the Leadership Team. I am also a member of the Social/Connections Team, teach Sabbath School once per quarter, and help out with praise music. My husband and I also provide the food for Sabbath School once or twice a quarter. Additionally, I started an arts ministry called Artists in Christian Expression, which is currently on hiatus because I just don’t have the time to properly devote to it…. What keeps you coming back to Encounter? Like I said, the Encounter people are my family here in Berrien Springs. We care about each other’s lives, celebrating and crying with one another. They were there when I really needed friends. Also, I like the small group format of Sabbath School. And I love that Encounter is more than just a Sabbath School – it allows me to socialize and serve with people who have similar values. I love that I can get as involved as I want to be. And I met my husband at Encounter! Who knew?! |
